My new love...
Purchased 6 months ago, I still get goosebumps when I see the beautiful white exterior, the streamlined design. I sigh when I boot up and it takes merely seconds for the system to get going and I sigh again to see the beautiful display. When my husband works on his fairly new Lenovo besides me and the Mac takes a quarter of the time to boot up and shut down, pride swells within my chest.
I really don't know why it took so long for me to switch to a Mac from a PC, I guess I partly bought into the bad publicity generated by the PC companies. Remember the commercial where a guy bashed his Mac?
So~ not true.
And I always thought that Macs were more expensive. My research in buying a laptop this time revealed that although there are no super-cheap Mac laptops prices of Macs are extremely comparable to a PC which have similar features, if you are buying mid-range to high-range.
We all know that Macs are generally much more attractive to look at. What I discovered only after buying one was that they are much easier to use and much more reliable. My Macbook has yet to crash.
There are some downsides to a Mac. One is the availability of programs.
While most programs (of note) become available for Macs at some point, many times the release of the Mac versions lag the PC versions significantly. For example, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0, available since Oct 2007, not released yet for the Mac. (I have been waiting for this....) Some games never become available for Macs. I guess with only 8% of the market being Mac, it doesn't quite pay to cater to the Mac user.
The other downside is the websites that are not quite Mac friendly. The only ones I have come across so far are Ebay and Cyworld (Korean). For the most part, on Ebay I can do pretty much anything. The only problems I have encountered was when I was selling when I was not able to do anything with the fonts. Also the lines run on end so all the text is jumbled together. Not conductive for advertising the product. On Cyworld, which is the Korean version of Myspace, Macusers are unable to upload pics.
However, the few Mac programs out there that are exclusively for the Mac more than make up for it. Notedly, iPhoto. Which, I think might be the best photo viewing program out there. And believe me, I have used pretty much everything that is out there. What makes iPhoto so great is that the thumbnails are bigger than most programs, hence easier to look at, but it takes no time at all to pull up all the pis. (No waiting a minute for all the photos to load.) Also, like most Mac programs, all you have to do is drag. If you want to make a cd with the photos, just drag the big thumbnails, which makes it super-convenient.
I sound like a walking advertisement. But believe me the new Macs are really THAT GOOD. I am a total convert. I love my Mac.
